Capcom's second shot at a 3D fighting game
after "Star Gladiator" was "Shiritsu Justice
Gakuen: Legion of Heroes", released
internationally as "Rival Schools". Modeled on
"fighting" anime shows of the time, it involves
high school students and teachers teaming up to
throw fireballs, wield oversized sports
equipment and leap fifty feet into the air for
devastating backbreakers, all to track down who
it is that's going around brainwashing the kids
and defeat them with the power of friendship.
It is as knowingly over-the-top as you're
likely imagining right now.

The soundtrack, done by one person, boasts
roaring synth guitars that know when to sit
back and let in more sedate instruments to
suit the mood. It also has melodies so catchy
that they may end up stuck in your head for a
while after you listen to them; the fact
they're composed very well means this is a
good thing. It would be a good soundtrack
whether or not it was in a game, but it helps
make the fighting action suitably comically
dramatic without being obnoxious about it.
I strongly recommend this one.
